Habitat:
Locally common on the margin of a beaver pond along a small drainage through a small wetland complex. Moist to wet mucky substrate, in a zone that was flooded earlier in the season. Full sun. Dense and rather robust clumps.

Associates include Eleocharis palustris, Carex retrorsa, C. canescens, Juncus brevicaudatus, Glyceria grandis, Torreyochloa pallida, Galium tinctorium, Sparganium emersum, Hypericum majus, Triadenum fraseri.
