Habitat: Rare and local on the extremely steep upper portion of the 340-foot north-facing slope above Vale Lake. On narrow mossy ledges of sedimentary (Rove Formation) bedrock forming multi-tiered, 3- to 10-foot tall, vertical to steeply-sloping bedrock faces (not seen on the overlying diabase). Partially shaded by Acer spicatum, Sorbus decora, Betula papyrifera, and Abies balsamea.
Associated Species: Associates include Cornus canadensis, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Maianthemum canadense, Clintonia borealis, Ribes glandulosum, Diervilla lonicera, Rubus strigosus, Betula cordifolia.
