Habitat: Local on a northeast- to east-facing, 40- to 70-foot cliff, on the lower to mid-slope of a steep-sided, 120-foot bedrock knob. Occasional to frequent on lower ledges of the rather dry cliff. Occurring mostly on diabase (Rove Formation sedimentary bedrock is poorly exposed on this side of the hill). Partial shade.
Associated Species: Associates include Poa glauca, Agrostis scabra, Woodsia ilvensis, Campanula rotundifolia, Rubus strigosus, Prunus pensylvanica, Betula cordifolia.
