Local atop a steep-sided, 120-foot bedrock knob overlooking the lake. Occasional clumps along crevices and in thin soil over the dry diabase bedrock. Sunny southwest aspect; gentle slope.
Associates include Danthonia spicata, Agrostis scabra, Corydalis sempervirens, Sibbaldiopsis tridentata, Polygonum cilinode, Hieracium piloselloides, Woodsia ilvensis.
