Habitat: Infrequent in old growth upland cedar forest dominated by Thuja occidentalis, with scattered Betula cordifolia, Acer rubrum, and Abies balsamea, Patchy understory dominated by Acer spicatum. Level to gently-sloping settings. Mesic silt-loam soil; thick litter.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex deweyana, C. arctata, C. brunnescens, C. deflexa, Dryopteris expansa, Osmorhiza depauperata, Circaea alpina, Clintonia borealis, Linnaea borealis, Trientalis borealis, Maianthemum canadense, Viola selkirkii, Lonicera canadensis.
