Scattered lone rosettes and small, loose to quite dense patches in shallow water near the shore of numerous small islands. Substrate varies from mucky silt to gravel. In water 1-4+ feet deep.
Associates include Lobelia dortmanna, Isoetes echinospora, Juncus pelocarpus, Littorella uniflora.
