Frequent on the upper portion of the extremely steep 220-foot, east-facing slope above Gasket Lake. In a narrow zone of scrub (semi-forested) talus, between granitic outcrops above and extensive open talus below. Partial shade of Betula papyrifera, Amelanchier interior, Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, and Prunus pensylvanica. Low shrubs, to ~30 inches tall.
Associates include Diervilla lonicera, Vaccinium angustifolium, Cardamine parviflora, Asplenium trichomanes, Oryzopsis pungens, Danthonia spicata, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Carex backii, C. merritt-fernaldii.
