Habitat: Locally common in broad mud flats in the western half of the narrow, bedrock-entrenched basin that encompasses Cuckoo Lake. Deep, wet, quaking muck. Full sun.
Associated Species: Associates include Eleocharis palustris, Dulichium arundinaceum, Juncus brevicaudatus, Carex cryptolepis, C. michauxiana, C. utriculata, Utricularia intermedia, Hypericum majus. Also occurring with Rhynchospora fusca, Xyris montana, and Utricularia cornuta in rich sedge fen 1/4- mile to the east, on the southwestern shore of the present extent of the lake (which is currently ~10 acres in size).
