Uncommon on the lower third of a moderately steep, 300-foot, north-facing slope. Loose patch of ~25 stems (singles and small clusters) in mature upland cedar forest. Patchy canopy (recent windthrow) of Thuja occidentalis, Abies balsamea, Pinus strobus, Picea glauca, and Betula papyrifera. Dense Acer spicatum in understory. Rocky sandy-loam; thick organic layer.
