Habitat: On the lower portion of an extremely steep, 220-foot, south-facing slope above the west end of Vernon Lake. Infrequent and local, in thin soil on rather dry, narrow, lower ledges of a 30- to 80-foot, basalt cliff. Partial shade of Thuja occidentalis, Picea glauca, and Betula papyrifera growing at the base of the cliff.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Woodsia ilvensis, Saxifraga virginiensis, Campanula rotundifolia, Achillea millefolium, Solidago nemoralis, Polygonum cilinode, Potentilla norvegica, Oenothera villosa, Rubus strigosus, Ribes oxyacanthoides, Carex merritt-fernaldii, Poa glauca.
