On the extremely steep mid-portion of a 220-foot, south-facing slope above the west end of Vernon Lake. Local, forming dense, tangled thickets at the upper margin of a zone of open talus, below 60- to 90-foot basalt cliffs. Rooted amongst talus blocks mostly ~6-18 inches in diameter. Climbing over shrubs and small trees, to 8 feet high. Full sun to partial shade of Betula cordifolia, Abies balsamea, and Populus tremuloides.
Associates include Parthenocissus inserta, Corylus cornuta, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Rosa acicularis, Polygonum scandens.
