Habitat: Local on the steep upper slope of a 130-foot ridge northeast of Brule Bay. Scattered clumps on narrow mossy ledges on lower to mid portions of 30- to 70-foot, dry to mesic, north-facing, rhyolite (and diabase?) cliff. Partial sun to full shade beneath Picea mariana, Abies balsamea, Thuja occidentalis, Pinus strobus, Betula cordifolia, and Sorbus decora.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Betula cordifolia saplings, Cladina spp. lichens, and Woodsia ilvensis, Carex deflexa, Campanula rotundifolia.
