Habitat: Rare on the north face of the 180-foot bedrock hill between North Bay and Lily Bay (portage to Lily Lake). Quite local on the gradually-sloping mid-slope (hill is much steeper upslope). Mesic forest dominated by Betula papyrifera. Dense understory of Corylus cornuta and Acer spicatum. Rocky sandy-loam with thick leaf litter and humus.
Associated Species: Associates include Linnaea borealis, Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Spinulum annotinum, Aster macrophyllus, Aralia nudicaulis, Clintonia borealis, Cornus canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Oryzopsis asperifolia.
