Habitat:
Occasional in small seepage wetlands. Partial shade of Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, Alnus viridis, Acer spicatum, Sorbus decora, and Salix discolor. Loose clumps in moist, shallow, rocky, organic soil on a narrow bedrock terrace just inland of the basalt shoreline shelf. In sedge meadow and shrub swamp settings.

Associates include Galium asprellum, Rubus pubescens, Equisetum sylvaticum, Impatiens capensis, Angelica atropurpurea, Potentilla fruticosa, Physocarpus opulifolius, Cornus stolonifera, Carex media, Calamagrostis canadensis.
