Habitat:
Occasional in small seepage wetlands. Partial shade of Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, Alnus viridis, Acer spicatum, Sorbus decora, and Salix discolor. Loose patches in moist, shallow, rocky, organic soil on a narrow bedrock terrace just inland of the basalt shoreline shelf. In sedge meadow and shrub swamp settings.

Associates include Angelica atropurpurea, Lathyrus venosus, Epilobium angustifolium, Mertensia paniculata, Aster umbellatus, Cornus stolonifera, Dryopteris carthusiana, Rosa acicularis, Ribes oxyacanthoides, Calamagrostis canadensis.
