Locality: United States, Minnesota, Cook, Butterwort Cliffs Scientific & Natural Area, Along the Lake Superior shore in fairly rugged bedrock terrain seven miles west-southwest of Grand Marais. T61N R1W SW1/4 of SE1/4 of SW1/4 Sec. 32

Habitat: Local, scattered plants in shallow and rather dry rocky soil over basalt on a moderately steep, south-facing slope. Full sun to partial shade of Sorbus decora, Thuja occidentalis, and Betula papyrifera in ecotonal area ~35-40 feet above the lake and just inland from the exposed lakeshore bedrock shelf. Growing with dense Diervilla lonicera.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Achillea millefolium, Fragaria virginiana, Epilobium angustifolium, Arabis pycnocarpa, Aralia nudicaulis.
