Habitat: Uncommon and quite local on a bedrock knob atop a 250-foot ridge overlooking the lower reaches of the Swamp River. A dozen or so scattered clumps in shallow soil over sloping diabase bedrock. Rather dry, exposed settings. Full sun.
Associated Species: Associates include Juniperus communis, Amelanchier spicata, Oryzopsis pungens, Poa pratensis, P. compressa, Danthonia spicata, Agrostis scabra, Potentilla norvegica, Corydalis sempervirens, Cardamine parviflora, Woodsia ilvensis, Arabis pycnocarpa.
