Habitat: Uncommon and quite local on a bedrock knob atop a 250-foot ridge overlooking the lower reaches of the Swamp River. Loose patch of ~15-20 small clumps in shallow soil over sloping diabase bedrock, near the top of a 60-foot east-facing cliff. Rather dry, exposed setting. In full sun most of the day.
Associated Species: Associates include Potentilla tridentata, Antennaria sp., Juniperus communis, Amelanchier spicata, Vaccinium angustifolium, Oryzopsis pungens, Poa glauca.
