Habitat: Local on the mid-slope of the steep southwest-facing slope of a 140-foot bedrock hill. Uncommon in shallow soil over bedrock atop 30- to 50-foot granitic cliffs. Partial shade of Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, Picea mariana, and P. glauca at the edge of an open woodland adjacent to the cliff top. Dry, level to moderately steeply sloping settings (southwesterly to westerly aspect).
Associated Species: Associates include Carex deflexa, Poa glauca, Aster macrophyllus, Antennaria sp., Aralia nudicaulis, Vaccinium myrtilloides.
