Habitat:
Occasional to frequent on small sandstone cliffs on the upper portion of a steep, northeast-facing, 100- to 160-foot slope. In crevices and on narrow mossy ledges. Many dozens of small patches along a nearly 1/4-mile stretch of discontinuous (somewhat sporadic and scattered) 15- to 30-foot tall mesic cliffs. Shaded beneath canopy of Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, Populus tremuloides, and occasional Thuja occidentalis, and by Sorbus decora, Acer spicatum, Abies balsamea, and Thuja occidentalis rooted in bedrock crevices above.
