Habitat: Rare and local on the steep mid-slope of a 200-foot bedrock hill. A single patch of ~30 stems encountered, along a vertical crevice on the lower portion of a 40-foot, southwest-facing, granitic cliff. Restricted to a very localized shaded (but dry) setting on this otherwise sunny, quite xeric vertical bedrock feature. Shaded here by Betula cordifolia and Populus tremuloides rooted in talus below the cliff.
Associated Species: Associated with Dryopteris fragrans.
