Habitat: Common on a bedrock knob atop a 250-foot ridge overlooking the lower reaches of the Swamp River. Along crevices and in shallow soil over sloping diabase bedrock. Full sun to partial shade of scattered short and open-grown Pinus banksiana and P. strobus. Shrubs to 6 feet tall (mostly 3-4 feet).
Associated Species: Associates include Diervilla lonicera, Vaccinium angustifolium, Juniperus communis, Oryzopsis pungens, Poa pratensis, Carex abdita, Potentilla norvegica, Sisyrinchium montanum, Fragaria virginiana.
