Habitat: Infrequent in a zone of forested talus below diabase cliffs that form the upper portion of the steep, north-facing slope of a 250-foot ridge. In shallow soil amongst large diabase talus blocks (~3-10 feet in diameter). Shaded beneath Betula papyrifera, Sorbus decora, Acer spicatum, and Thuja occidentalis. Dry-mesic to mesic settings. Low shrubs, to ~24 inches tall.
Associated Species: Associates include Ribes glandulosum, Rubus strigosus, Alnus viridis, Abies balsamea, Carex peckii, Agrostis scabra, Polypodium virginianum, Gymnocarpium jessoense, G. dryopteris.
