Local on the extremely steep north side of a 200-foot bedrock ridge west of the lower reaches of the Swamp River. Uncommon, scattered clumps in a narrow zone of mesic scrub talus, and on the ledges of 40-foot, north-facing, diabase cliffs immediately upslope. Rooted in moss mats atop (and between) the large talus blocks, and on narrow mid-cliff ledges; often in rather dry settings. Full sun to partial shade of Betula papyrifera.
