Locality: United States, Minnesota, Cook, Rugged bedrock terrain above McFarland Lake, 15 miles west-northwest of Hovland. T64N R3E NW1/4 of NE1/4 of NW1/4 Sec. 9 (or SW1/4 of SE1/4 of SW1/4 Sec. 4)

Habitat: Local, ~15-20 small clumps in talus on the mid-portion of a very steep, 320-foot, east-facing slope. The talus consists of small to fine fragments of sedimentary bedrock (Rove Formation). Full sun to partial shade in a canopy gap above the small and localized talus community here. Shading is mostly from tall shrubs on the margin of the talus including Cornus rugosa, Corylus cornuta, and Amelanchier sp.
Associated Species: Associates include Poa compressa, Diervilla lonicera, Prunus pensylvanica, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
