Local on the lower portion of the extremely steep southwest-facing slope of a 140-foot bedrock hill. Infrequent, several clumps in dry shallow soil amongst talus and exposed bedrock at the base of a 30-foot high granitic cliff. Also along crevices of sloping bedrock on the lower portion of the cliff. Full sun to partial shade of Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, and Sorbus decora.
Associates include Carex umbellata, Poa nemoralis, Polypodium virginianum, Woodsia ilvensis.
