Habitat: Uncommon on northeast-facing cliffs on the extremely steep mid- to upper portion of a 160-foot slope. On narrow, mossy, lower to middle ledges of near vertical, 40- to 80-foot high, thinly-bedded sedimentary (Rove Formation) cliffs; these often multi-tiered. Partial sun to full shade of Picea glauca, Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, Thuja occidentalis, and Pinus strobus.
Associated Species: Associates include Poa glauca, Woodsia ilvensis, W. scopulina, Polypodium virginianum, Moehringia macrophylla, Cardamine parviflora, Campanula rotundifolia.
