Habitat: Uncommon on the upper portion of the very steep, 450-foot slope above Royal Lake. Widely scattered clumps on lower to middle ledges of 50- to 75-foot, north- to northeast-facing cliffs, and on the talus below. On both the sedimentary (Rove Formation) bedrock that makes up the lower third of these mesic cliffs and on the overlying diabase. The talus is a mix of small sedimentary pieces and larger (~6-15 inches diameter) diabase blocks. Shaded settings.
Associated Species: Associates include Poa glauca, Campanula rotundifolia, Arabis divaricarpa, Polypodium virginianum, Woodsia ilvensis, Asplenium trichomanes.
