Habitat:
Local on a narrow sandbar exposed by receding river levels. Frequent in moist sand 1-4 inches above water level. Full sun.
Associated Species:
Associates include Ranunculus aquatilis, Sparganium eurycarpum, Alisma sp., Eragrostis hypnoides, Leersia oryzoides, Echinochloa muricata, Eleocharis intermedia. Also, dense patches in water 6-30 inches deep, slack to moderate current. Sand-gravel bottom. Plants variously fully submerged (and sterile) to the upper portion emergent (fertile). Associates here include Sagittaria cuneata, Elodea canadensis, Zosterella dubia, Potamogeton pectinatus.
