Habitat: Local on mid- to upper portion of the steep, north-facing, forested slope of a 35-foot high sandy terrace above a sharp bend in the river. Frequent in moss mats over fine sand. Shaded beneath canopy of Picea glauca, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, and Tilia americana, and an understory that includes Fraxinus nigra, Zanthoxylum americanum, and Corylus cornuta.
Associated Species: Associates include Equisetum scirpoides, E. hyemale, Aralia nudicaulis, Uvularia grandiflora, Thalictrum dioicum, Lathyrus ochroleucus, Aster macrophyllus, Asarum canadense, Carex pedunculata, Amelanchier sp.
