Habitat: Local on the lower portion of fairly steep, 260-foot, northeast facing bluff on the west side of White Rock Trail, south of Hwy 19. Rather dense small patches in mesic hardwood forest, recently selectively salvage-logged (post-windthrow). Partial shade of Acer saccharum, Tilia americana, and Fraxinus nigra. Understory of Staphylea trifolia and Carya cordiformis. Compacted loam.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex hirtifolia, Oryzopsis racemosa, Elymus hystrix, Hydrophyllum appendiculatum, H. virginianum, Isopyrum biternatum, Adiantum pedatum, Athyrium angustum, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Ribes cynosbati.
