Locally abundant in a small patch of lowland white cedar along a gently-sloping ephemeral stream drainage west of the Brule Lake Hiking Trail. Shaded beneath canopy of Thuja occidentalis, with occasional Picea mariana and Betula papyrifera. Loose to quite dense patches. Moist shallow organic substrate.
Associates include Thelypteris phegopteris, Athyrium angustum, Cornus canadensis, Pyrola secunda, P. minor, Mitella nuda, Trientalis borealis, Streptopus amplexifolius, S. roseus, Rubus pubescens, Corallorhiza trifida, Carex leptalea, C. trisperma, C. disperma.
