Habitat: Uncommon in lowland white cedar forest along a gently-sloping ephemeral drainage west of the Brule Lake Hiking Trail. Patchy to interrupted canopy of Thuja occidentalis, with occasional Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, and Picea mariana. Alnus incana in rather sparse understory. Moist organic soil.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Athyrium angustum, Thelypteris phegopteris, Dryopteris expansa, Lycopodium lucidulum, Mitella nuda, Rubus pubescens, Cornus canadensis, Linnaea borealis, Smilacina trifolia, Coptis groenlandica, Carex trisperma, Lonicera canadensis.
