Habitat:
Occasional in lowland white cedar forest along a gently-sloping ephemeral drainage west of the Brule Lake Hiking Trail. Patchy to interrupted canopy of Thuja occidentalis, with occasional Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, and Picea mariana. Alnus incana in a rather sparse understory. Moist organic soil.

Additional associates include Athyrium angustum, Thelypteris phegopteris, Osmunda cinnamomea, Cornus canadensis, Linnaea borealis, Platanthera obtusata, Rubus pubescens, Mitella nuda, Coptis groenlandica, Galium triflorum, Gaultheria hispidula, Lonicera canadensis.
