Habitat: Occasional in shallow water, and just above the water line in a narrow zone exposed by receding water levels. Submersed plants with inflorescences (on elongated scapes) held slightly emergent, much longer than the short scapes of plants above the water line. Substrate varies from organic to rocky, often with boulders. Small but often dense patches.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Equisetum fluviatile, Dulichium arundinaceum.
