Habitat: Occasional in shallow water or just above the water line in zone exposed by receding water levels; typically in water ~12 inches deep where the upper portion of the plant (including the cone) is emergent. Substrate varies from organic to rocky, often with boulders. Small but often dense patches.
Associated Species: Associates include Eriocaulon aquaticum, Dulichium arundinaceum.
