Habitat: Local along the outlet drainage from (east of) Lantern Lake. Old growth upland white cedar forest. Patchy canopy dominated by large Thuja occidentalis, with large Fraxinus nigra near the small ephemeral stream. Understory of Acer spicatum, Abies balsamea and Thuja occidentalis. Loose clumps in moist, rocky, organic soil near the stream.
Associated Species: Associates in a fern-dominated ground layer include Carex intumescens, C. leptonervia, Glyceria striata, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Athyrium angustum, Thelypteris phegopteris, Streptopus amplexifolius.
