Habitat:
Occasional to common in shallow water along the south shore of Carl Lake. Substrate varies from fine sand to mucky sand. In water up to 4 feet deep; floating leaves are mostly restricted to plants growing in water less than 12 inches deep. Loose to fairly dense patches.

Associates include Eriocaulon aquaticum, Equisetum fluviatile, Najas flexilis, Eleocharis palustris, Lobelia kalmii, Sparganium fluctuans, Chara sp.
