Habitat:
Uncommon and quite local atop an 80- to 150-foot high, west-facing, granitic cliff southwest of Misquah Lake. Dry setting; on extremely steeply sloping bedrock that here consists of a series of narrow, stair-step ledges. Mostly in full sun; some partially shaded by Pinus banksiana and Sorbus decora. Sporadic here amongst Cladina lichens and Polytrichum mosses.

Additional associates include Danthonia spicata, Agrostis scabra, Carex tonsa, Woodsia ilvensis, Antennaria howellii, Saxifraga virginiensis, Potentilla tridentata, P. norvegica, Diervilla lonicera.
