Habitat: Occasional quite locally atop an 80- to 150-foot high, west-facing, granitic cliff southeast of Misquah Lake. Dry setting; in thin soil on extremely steeply sloping bedrock that here consists of a series of narrow, stair-step ledges. Mostly in full sun; some partially shaded by Pinus banksiana and Sorbus decora. Small dense patches amongst Cladina lichens and Polytrichum mosses.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Agrostis scabra, Danthonia spicata, Carex tonsa, Woodsia ilvensis, Saxifraga virginiensis, Viola adunca, Potentilla tridentata, P. norvegica, Diervilla lonicera.
