Habitat:
Occasional quite locally atop an 80- to 150-foot high, west-facing, granitic cliff southeast of Misquah Lake. Dry setting; in thin soil on extremely steeply sloping bedrock that here consists of a series of narrow, stair-step ledges. Mostly in full sun; some partially shaded by Pinus banksiana and Sorbus decora. Small dense patches amongst Cladina lichens and Polytrichum mosses.

Additional associates include Agrostis scabra, Danthonia spicata, Carex tonsa, Woodsia ilvensis, Saxifraga virginiensis, Viola adunca, Potentilla tridentata, P. norvegica, Diervilla lonicera.
