Quite local in a narrow (~25-foot wide) ecotonal zone between a 40- to 80-foot, north-facing gabbro cliff and a small (4-acre) shallow pond, along the drainage between Davis and Pup lakes. Several small patches, in moss mats (including Sphagnum) over boulders and decaying wood. Partially shaded mesic setting beneath Picea mariana and Pinus strobus.
Associates include seedlings of Thuja occidentalis and Betula cordifolia, also Spinulum annotinum, Calamagrostis canadensis, Abies balsamea, Gaultheria hispidula, Chamaedaphne calyculata.
