Abundant in hundreds of acres of rocky upland on the west end of Davis Lake; part of a ~4,000-acre area recovering from an intense 2006 wildfire. Full sun to shaded by dense young regrowth dominated by Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, Populus tremuloides, and Pinus banksiana. Often in shallow rocky soil over the gabbro bedrock which is frequently exposed in this vicinity. Plants trailing over the ground and into the vegetation; stems to 6+ feet long.
