Frequent on a 40- to 60-foot, northwest- to west-facing gabbro cliff along the short portage trail connecting Phalanx and Finn lakes; cliff overlooks the eastern portion of Finn Lake. Loose to dense patches along crevices on a sparsely-vegetated, dry-mesic rock face. Shaded beneath Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, Picea mariana, and Abies balsamea.
Associates include Cystopteris fragilis, Aquilegia canadensis.
