Infrequent to occasional in dry conifer woodland on a low bedrock ridge east of Muskeg Lake and north of Kiskadinna Lake. Partial shade beneath patchy canopy of Picea mariana, with frequent Pinus banksiana. Shallow silty soil over bedrock, often near the margins of gabbro outcrops. Small loose patches (vertical shoots). Horizontal stems buried ~3 inches.
Associates include Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Diphasiastrum tristachyum, D. complanatum, Lycopodium clavatum, Linnaea borealis, Cornus canadensis, Cypripedium acaule, Vaccinium angustifolium, Oryzopsis pungens.
