Habitat:
Quite local on mossy boulders along the upper reaches of a small intermittent creek drainage just south of the Banadad ski trail. Several small but dense patches perched ~6-18 inches above the now dry stream bed. Partial shade of Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, and Acer spicatum in the adjacent mesic mixed forest recovering from extensive windthrow in 1999.

Associates include Maianthemum canadense, Impatiens capensis, Rubus pubescens, Athyrium angustum, Scirpus atrocinctus, Carex disperma, Cinna latifolia.
