Habitat:
Local on the margins of a beaver pond along a small drainage west of Prop Lake. Common, forming loose patches in moist to dry and cracked mucky clay, mostly on the outer portion of broad mud flats exposed by receding water levels (due to an extended drought). Full sun. Largest plants 3+ feet tall.

Associates include Eleocharis ovata, E. palustris, Dulichium arundinaceum, Scirpus atrocinctus, Glyceria canadensis, Torreyochloa pallida, Juncus brevicaudatus, Sparganium emersum, Bidens connata, Iris versicolor, Myriophyllum farwellii.
