Local, large dense patch on the north shore of Horseshoe Lake, in a small bay near the portage to Caribou Lake. Mostly in full sun (to partial shade of Pinus strobus and Thuja occidentalis part of the day). Moist, rocky, silty-organic substrate within 3 feet of the current level of the lake (down ~12 inches from the early season high water mark due to an extended drought). Robust clumps, often with a dozen or more fronds, these often over 4 feet tall. Several other smaller patches encountered in similar settings on the shores of Horseshoe Lake.
