Habitat: Occasional here, scattered plants along a small ravine on the gently sloping upper portion of a 450-foot northeast-facing slope above the Lower Stump River north of Loft Lake. Patchy canopy, locally dominated by Fraxinus nigra, Betula papyrifera, and Abies balsamea. Tall and fairly dense understory dominated by Acer spicatum. Rocky loam with abundant earthworm castings. Mesic setting. Also sporadic downslope along steeper parts of the ravine.
Associated Species: Associates include Asarum canadense, Aster macrophyllus, Athyrium angustum, Rubus pubescens, R. parviflorus, Carex pedunculata, C. deweyana.
