Habitat: Local in poor conifer swamp dominated by Picea mariana, with scattered Larix laricina. Rare in, and apparently confined to, a ~7.5-acre patch where the trees are denser and more mature than the rest of this ~200-acre black spruce swamp. Continuous moss carpets (Sphagnum spp., Pleurozium schreberi, Hylocomium splendens, Dicranum sp., etc.). Deep moist peat.
Associated Species: Associates include Ledum groenlandicum, Gaultheria hispidula, Vaccinium vitis-idaea, Rubus chamaemorus, Smilacina trifolia, Cypripedium acaule, Monotropa uniflora.
