Habitat: Uncommon to occasional on 20- to 40-foot, northeast-facing, diabase cliffs which extend more or less continuously for nearly 0.75 miles on the upper portion of an extremely steep 250-foot slope. Mostly in shaded dry-mesic settings on the often exposed (partially sunny) and rather dry rock face. Along mossy crevices of the frequently fractured bedrock.
Associated Species: Associates include Dryopteris fragrans, Woodsia ilvensis, Cystopteris fragilis, Polypodium virginianum, Campanula rotundifolia, Rubus strigosus.
